Kalabash
As the beamish boy became a man, Dreams of knight ship were his plan. A vow, to be the very best that he can.
His heart's adventure at once began
Now listen to me my son, for father knows best,
I know how to battle, from my very past.
Follow all of the words that I do suggest,
For this could be your battle last.
The game you seek is of the Kalabash.
For death's door opens with her very glance.
The way to win is with a deadly slash,
After you put the beast into a hidden trance.
Heeding his father's word, he trained all night.
Perfecting his courage with all of his might.
Returning home victorious was his plight.
Indeed he was ready for this ultimate fight.
He took his once vorpal sword in his fist,
Trudged up the mountain to start his quest.
Coming to a cave above the peak's mist,
His heart began to pound out of his chest.
Hanging from the cavern's edge by a hand,
Shooting pain came and blood quickly ran.
The boy's life was now hanging by a strand,
As the claws digged, he felt like a true mortal man.
He let out a cry and a tear was shed,
As the Kalabash dragged him by his head.
The beast was cruel and something to dread.
And soon the man felt as if he were dead.
The creature was large and of massive in size.
Crimson blood was the color of its squinted eyes.
It threw the man to the ground, with his surprise
Then look upon him with sympathy as it's head did rise.
"I know what you were gonna do
Come up here and show me a thing or two
As you would do to me, I do to you
But now I want to start everything anew."
The creature began to glow and shine so bright,
And the body changed in width and height.
A woman now stood where came the light,
She was wearing a flowing cape and a dress of white.
Her skin was black as that of the monster's scale,
Cascading hair and eyes of blue so pale.
A silver staff was held by her hand so frail.
And with the transformation the boy did inhale.
"Do not be afraid, I shall hurt you no more.
All your health I shall restore.
Never have I met a man like you before.
And I shall remain changed forevermore.
With a wave of her hand, he was healed.
He stumbled about and his disgrace was revealed.
His father's honor had been repealed.
And with rage he drew his sword and shield.
“How dare you save life like this,
Bringing my soul out of Hades abyss.
My desire for death you just dismiss,
Return home I cannot, O Temptress!
Because you did this deed for me,
My hopes and dreams I shall not see.
My father's trust is now gone for eternity,
And to shed your blood is the only key.
With all his anger, so bitter and tart,
He hurled his knife as if a dart.
The blade dug straight into her heart,
And soon her cries began to start.
His actions he did quickly regret,
And all his anger he did forget.
He ran to her side for she was no longer a threat,
And for one last moment their eyes met.
She took her last breath, so quiet in pace.
He cradled her head within an embrace.
And as single tear ran off his face,
Onto her cheek it made its trace.
With subtle movement of her eye,
His heart no longer could hide the lie.
For his love for her he could not deny,
Now all he longed for was her reply.
As she awoke from which she came
Her heart too, love so did claim.
Both had fallen into cupids fair game.
And together passions they did proclaim.
Indeed this was his battle last,
To fall in love was his final task.
And as the future became the past.
A question of doubt was never asked.
As the beamish boy at last a man,
Dreams of knight ship had been his plan.
To love his wife the very best that he can.
His hearts adventure still began.
